This mode of interpreting is used in conferences with a high number of participants, requiring that interpreters translate what is being said in real time, with an extremely short time lag (décalage) between the voice of the speaker and their own voice.

For this mode of interpreting, at least two interpreters for each foreign language are needed. Simultaneous interpreters work in a soundproof booth, from which they can see the conference room. Interpreters take turns in interpreting: they hear the voice of the speaker in their headphones and translate almost simultaneously into a microphone.

Meeting or conference participants use headsets to listen to the translation into the desired language.

The interpreting fees and the number of interpreters needed may change depending on the number of working languages, the working hours, and the subject matter of the meeting.

Number of interpreters needed for each foreign language: one for a maximum of 1 hour, two for a maximum of 7 hours, three for more than 7 hours.
